• . մէկ անգամ գործածուած է Ել. լ. 24. «Հերիկ հինգ հարիւր սիկղ». յն. համա-աատասխան բառն է ἰρις, որ նշանակում է «մի տեսակ անուշահոտ ծաղիկ՝ շուշանազ-գիներից». այսպէ՛ս են ընդունած շատերը ինչպէս նաև Գր. Աղթամարցին (հրտր. Կոստ-էջ 76)։ (Հմմտ. վերջին անգամ Տիրացուեան, Contributo § 58 և 60)։ Ոմանք, ըստ որում եբրայական բնագրի մէջ բառիս դէմ դրուած է [hebrew word] qīddā «դարիճենիկ, կասիա, lau-rus cassia L», կարծում են թէ հայերէն z-48ვ ռառն էլ պէտք է այս նշանակութեամբ առ. նել։ Գործածուած է նաև խունկի մի տեսակը նշանակելու համար. այսպէս եմ գտնում ճառընտ. «Կէսք արկանէին խունկս հիրիկս և կէսքն խունկս ապուրանս». (նոյնը Վրք. և վկ, ա. 527 խունկս խիրիկս)։-Բառգիրք երեմ. յաւել. 569 մեկնում է «խիժ, հիւթ կպչուն որ կաթէ ի ծառոյ». այսպէս նաև Տաթև. հարս. 349՝ Հիրիկ «խէժ է ծառոց»։-Ստ. Ռոշքեան էլ գիտէ հիրիկ անունով մի թուփ՝ աշնան ծաղկող և սիրելի մեղուներին, իբր լտ. laica (?)։-ՀՀԲ և ԱԲ մեկնում են նաև «ծիրանի գօտի, ծիածան». բայց այս իմաստը հայե-րէնում բնաւ չէ գործածուած և յայտնապէս յարմարեցրած է ՀՀԲ-ի կողմից, համաձայն յն. ἰρις-ի, որի առաջին նշանակութիւնն է «ծիածան»։ Նոր գրականում հիրիկ գործած-ւում է «աչքի ծիածան» նշանակութեամբ, իբր յն. ἰρις և ֆրանս. iris, որոնք ունին նաև այս նշանակութիւնը։ Հիրիկ բառի բուն և ստոյգ նշանակութիւնն է ուրեմն «անու-շահոտ և գունագեղ մի ծաղիկ» և կապ. ունի թերևս նախորդ հիր «յակնթագոյն» բառի հետ։
